This month, Art in America asked me to write an open letter of sorts to one of my art heroes: Bruce Nauman. Basically, I was asked to pitch some studio interviews last fall, and despite knowing that Nauman is hesitant to grant interviews, I said I wanted to try to reach him. The magazine wasn’t able to make the connection between us, but my editor suggested this as a semi-serious alternative piece. It was a fun little experiment, a type of writing with which I’ve little experience. All in all, it ended up being a good chance to shout out some artist friends that I think draw influence from Nauman’s expansive body of work. Give it a read and let me know what you think.
